This is consider a Level 1 pose, although many beginners are likely to find it difficult. You may find that folding forward in this posture could prove to be a challenge.Seated Wide Legged Forward Folds can act as a great prep pose to help you move toward full splits or Hanumanasana. Many students also find this posture to be beneficial as a restorative pose which can aid with sleep. The pose also stretches the inner legs, hamstrings and groin, therefore promoting a healthy pelvic region.
You may also notice this posture being mentioned as one that is beneficial for sexuality and libido. The pose increases blood flow to the pelvic region and also places the pelvic area against the floor. Of course, wide spread legs can also create romantic or naughty thoughts.
It’s fine to remain upright in this posture until you’re comfortable with folding. You can also bend your knees slighty if needed, or use a blanklet under the buttocks for more comfort. Don’t spread the legs wider than what is comfortable, and take your time with trying to go wider and deeper.
